Put People First! PA EnewsMay Statewide Call: Understanding the PA Legislature

Graphic for May Statewide Call
Join us TONIGHT, Wednesday, May 20th from 7 – 8 pm. Zoom info below. Every third Wednesday of the month from 7-8 pm ET, Put People First! PA holds our Statewide Membership Call. This call is for active members, mobilizers, and anyone who is interested in finding out more about our Healthcare is a Human Right campaign and getting involved! This month’s call will be about understanding the PA legislature.

Pennsylvania has one of the highest paid legislatures in the country, yet most of us have little contact with our elected representatives, and oftentimes they’re not talking about (or doing anything about) the issues that matter most to us. This call will look at how things work in Harrisburg, based on years of experience interacting with the legislature and studying the politics and economics of our state and our country.

We’ll define our practice of political independence, and we’ll get in the right mindset for Crowd the Capitol on June 8, our upcoming day of grassroots pressure to restore the adult dental benefit in Medicaid.

Last Call to Crowd the Capitol!

Crowd the Capitol Flyer
Join Put People First! PA on Monday, June 8th for our annual Advocacy Day to Crowd the Capitol and demand the Senate restore the adult dental benefit in Medicaid!

Register here by Friday, May 22nd: https://bit.ly/CrowdTheCapitolPPF

Did you know that the adult dental benefit in Medicaid in PA was cut back in 2011? Since then, Medicaid has not covered root canals or crowns, frequent deep cleanings, and it only covers one set of dentures in a lifetime! Cutting this benefit has literally resulted in MILLIONS of unnecessarily pulled teeth.

While politicians are pushing data centers down our throats and doing the bidding of billionaires, everyday people continue to struggle for our basic health and survival. Put People First! PA has been fighting to restore the Adult Dental Benefit to Medicaid since 2018, along with other partners.

We’ll be meeting with legislators, dropping off hundreds of cards with our healthcare stories and holding a rally/press conference where we’ll be sharing experiences from across the state and laying out our entire program for healthcare as a human right. Plus having breakfast and lunch, building community, connecting with our youth, telling our stories, and documenting the entire day so that we can continue to share our message for long after June 8th.

Even if you can’t join us for the day, you can still call into your legislator and make your voice heard! We’ll provide you with everything you need to do that. And you can share your story and we’ll deliver it to your legislator for you!
